Before You Visit

Everything worth knowing before you leave home.

Getting Here

The most practical way, full stop. About 100 miles from Boston — two hours in reasonable traffic, considerably longer if you time it badly. New York is 5ish hours.

Timing tips

  • Arriving: Avoid Fridays noon–8pm and Saturday mornings 9am–2pm. Before noon Friday or after 8pm is smooth sailing.
  • Departing: Sunday afternoon is the stuff of legend. Traffic peaks noon–7pm. Sunday evening is a much happier story.
  • Brian and Andrew drive down Thursday evening and back Sunday night — reliably under two hours both ways. That's our honest recommendation.

GPS takes you right to us. Address: 7 Overlook Drive, Truro, MA

Train and bus connections exist but aren't recommended — the link from Hyannis to Truro is not elegant. The ferry or a car service will serve you much better.

What to Bring

The Essentials

Truro in summer is casual — breathable layers, sun protection, and something to swim in.

  • A swimsuit — pack two. Between the beach and the hot tub, you’ll use both.
  • Sun hat and good sunglasses
  • Linen, Birkenstocks, anything that breathes — there’s no dress code here
  • A light rain jacket — sun, fog, and a surprise shower can all show up in the same day
  • An extra layer for evenings — it cools down once the sun goes, and we tend to stay outside

What We’ve Got Covered

Don’t bother packing any of these.

  • Beach towels, chairs, and sunscreen
  • Shower essentials and a small stash of travel-size forgotten things
  • Bug spray — evenings outside are most evenings
  • There's a CVS in Provincetown for anything basic — but we're genuinely rural out here, so bring what you know you'll need

What to Think About

The slower things worth remembering.

  • A good book — or three. Ambition is fine.
  • A game you've been wanting to share (we have plenty at the house, but additions are welcome)
  • Cash for farm stands, fish markets, and the occasional ice cream window that hasn't caught up with card readers

Gifts & Bribes

Entirely unnecessary, obviously. That said, competition for the best bedroom is real, and we have observed that a bottle of good whiskey, a decent tequila, or a Lego set has historically influenced the outcome. We’re just saying.
